Cropped Perfection of a Smart 1080P IP Camera, July 7, 2013

Customer Video Review Part:: 2:56 Mins

    Update September 3, 2014:
I have had a couple of issues with these cameras since they were bought in June 2013. The majority of the problems were resolved with the help of TriVision support. Specific items contain:
    1. Light sensor on one camera failed, causing the camera to over and over again turn the infra-red lights on and off at nighttime.

    2. Half of the infra-red lights on another camera failed; additionally, the camera is essentially blind at nighttime, as if the infra-red cut filter is stuck.

    3. Two cameras refused to accept firmware updates.

    4. The SanDisk class 10 32GB memory card in three of the cameras has had to be reformatted at least twice because the cameras bunged recording video.

    5. One camera will not reliably function after a power outage, or after the camera is intentionally unplugged.

TriVision’s support person has been very helpful in resolving the issues that I have experienced. The results of support requests stay on:
    1. TriVision sent a couple replacement infra-red light boards to me from China, taking roughly a month to arrive. The replacement light board corrected the problem with this camera. I recently requested bonus infra-red light boards to fix NC-336PW cameras with one or more failed infra-red lights (generally the top-half or the bottom half of the lights all failed) – the replacement boards arrived in one business day, so TriVision has address the long parts shipment delay problem.

    2. A replacement infra-red light board did not right the nighttime blindness problem. TriVision support replaced this camera free of charge.

    3. There was apparently a problem with a firmware update a year ago that prevented the installation of new firmware on two of the four cameras. TriVision support sent a custom firmware update to me that successfully installed, and allowed later firmware updates to be successfully installed.

    4. No resolution for the camera card corruption problem yet, but the problem happens infrequently, so it is not that significant of an issue.

    5. Past experience indicated that the camera must be unplugged for 2.5 summary to work reliably after a power outage. I replaced the power supply with a spare left over from a NC-336PW that was converted to power over Ethernet. That replacement power supply seemed to fix the problem until I recently unplugged the camera to attach it to an uninterruptable power supply unit (UPS – a battery that will keep the camera running all through a power outage). It took roughly 1.5 hours of trying uncommon procedures with three uncommon power supplies before the camera would work again when either connected to a normal electrical outlet or the UPS. I do not reckon that it is related, but just before the camera started working, I unplugged the camera and held the reset button for 10 seconds (this should have no effect since the camera was unplugged). Now that the camera is functioning when connected to a UPS, it should be unaffected by power outages, so this issue is no longer a significant concern.

The replacement camera provided to me shipped with a 4mm lens, rather than a 4.2mm lens as was supplied in the original NC-326PW cameras. The 4mm lens provides a vaguely wider angle view without negatively affecting the image quality.

Considering the significant price decrease, the wider angle lens, the likely better build quality, and the help offered by TriVision’s support department, deliberate the buy of this camera if your computers cannot play back 1080P (1920 x 1080) video full cover at full resolution. If your computer supports 1080P or greater resolution, deliberate instead the buy of the TriVision NC-336PW.

Even as the updated version of the NC-326PW might rate a 4.5 on a 5 star scale, I have only raised the rating associated with this review from three stars to four.

    Update September 20, 2014:
If you own this camera, or one of the other TriVision 720P or 1080P cameras, I strongly suggest installing the just released 5.78B (20140916) firmware version. The new firmware version not only adds the ability to adjust the image brightness, contrast, hue, saturation, sharpness, and auto exposure target for the camera through a new Image Setup menu option, but also significantly improves the default color accuracy, contrast, and image sharpness. See the before and after images that I recently uploaded for the NC-336PW – with the new firmware installed, the image clarity of the NC-326PW is now a close match to the NC-336PW with the new firmware.)

    Original Review:
    Description of the Attached Video:
The video shows several video clips that were triggered by the cameras’ motion capture capabilities (most of the specified motion pre-record video segment was trimmed); a diversity of day and nighttime clips…

    Awesome camera, October 12, 2014
    By

    Verified Buy(What’s this?)
Bought the camera end of April 2014.
Dead on arrival, and the lack of official web site for the camera was at first unsettling.
Tried the e-mail support and was pleasantly surprised with an immediate answer by a real real person with a name. The process to get a replacement was a tad confused, but eventually I got one without having to pay a dime. In hindsight, support via e-mail finished up being so much better than phone support where you have to call all through opening hours, go through menus, wait for a representative (“your call is vital for us, please stay on the line”) and talk to a uncommon person each and every time.
As for the camera replacement, it’s been running 24×7, for 5+ months, outside, under a mix of heavy rain and a really hot summer, all of this without a single issue. By the way, you can mount the camera from the top (instead of bottom as shown in pictures), which is what I did.
It’s the first time I was able to use a webcam without suspicion the need to use an external program (ispy) to take care of recording on motion detection. Built-in the camera’s firmware:
    – 4 configurable zones for motion detection (I use them to remove trees or often moving objects).
    – Ability to upload videos (instead of pictures) to windows shares (also supports ftp).
You can also tell to record a few seconds before and after motion was detected.
    – Can configure periods: I’m only recording at nighttime (IR is by the way working really well).
    – Can specify quality settings for when recording: in my case I record at medium settings to save space on my NAS.
By and large the best camera I had so far. I’d usually knock down 1 star for a DOA, but the process of getting a replacement went so well that I’m giving it back.

I’m plotting on buying a following one.

I ordered around four uncommon IP Wi-Fi cameras from other manufacturers on amazon. They were cheaper in price but did not work at all when attempting to connect by Wi-Fi. I’m not a novice I’m a network architect so wireless isn’t new to me. I tried everything to get those others to work because I didn’t want to spend this much on a camera… Boy oh boy I should have saved the headache and bought this first. It’s incredible. HD video over Wi-Fi. Connects immediately. I have it set up to upload snapshots and video to a network shared drive so that I don’t need to place an SD card in the camera. This thing facility so fantastic and the picture is incredible in day and nighttime that I immediately went on today and bought a following one. I have no regret at all. If you’re looking for an outside Wi-Fi camera this is your best bet. You get what you pay for and you’re paying for simple to install, fantastic flawless picture, and just an by and large fantastic product. I would highly recommend this camera to anyone.
